The Benefits of Aromatherapy Herbal Candles

The use of fragrance for personal enhancement is a growing trend. If you would like to try out the practice of aromatherapy for yourself, a good way to start is with some aromatherapy herbal candles. Candles are beautiful and add ambience to your home. Herbs, on the other hand, have all kinds of therapeutic benefits and uses. When burned in candle form, the herbs release their pleasing fragrance. You can either buy this type of candle or make it yourself. Making a basic candle is easier than you might think.

First, you need wax. You can find soy based wax, paraffin and beeswax at most any craft store or candle supply shop. You can even use the remnants of old candles that are too short to burn. You will also need a wick. Wicks can be purchased at your local craft store also. And, don't forget a candle mold. Then you need the herbs that you want to use. Health food stores and even some supermarkets carry an assortment of dried herbs. Popular herbs for the purposes of candlemaking include lavender, mint, thyme, rosemary, lemongrass and sage. You may also want to add dried flowers or even some essential oil to your candle as well.

The first step of making an herbal candle is to melt down the wax in a double boiler. The temperature should be low to medium. Once the wax is liquid, stir in the herbs and any color or fragrance oils you are using. Remove the wax from the heat and pour into your candle mold. Then, add the wick in the center of the mold. Allow the mold to sit until the wax is completely hardened. This can usually be achieved overnight. How long it will take your candle to harden depends on how large it is. The dried herbs should end up suspended throughout the wax which gives your candle an attractive natural look.

Of course, you can buy aromatherapy herbal candles if you don't want to make them. The Internet is a treasure trove of candle sellers. Many small online retailers sell aromatherapy candles made with herbs of all kinds. You may want to do some further research on aromatherapy to find out which herbal candle you should buy. Different herbs have different properties. For example, lavender is very soothing and mint is very invigorating. The candle you burn can add to the mood of your home, so choose wisely!
